JOB SUMMARY & KEY PRIORITIES

We are seeking a dynamic digital leader who combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution and a deep understanding of youth culture and digital engagement. The Senior Manager, Digital & Social Media serves as the strategic lead for Active Minds’ digital presence, responsible for developing and executing high-impact social media and digital strategies that inspire, engage, and mobilize teens and young adults to become mental health champions. 

 

This role is designed for a forward-thinking digital marketer with strong expertise in social media strategy, media planning, content management, and creator engagement. The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of youth culture, emerging platforms, and digital storytelling, combined with strong analytical skills and the ability to translate insights into action.

 

Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications Strategy, this role will lead the planning, execution, and optimization of digital campaigns across organic and paid channels, manage relationships with content creators and influencers, and leverage social listening and analytics to continuously refine strategy and performance. This leader will play a critical role in ensuring Active Minds remains culturally relevant, digitally innovative, and deeply connected to youth and young adult audiences nationwide.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Social Media Strategy & Digital Campaign Execution

  • Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive social media and digital engagement strategy aligned to organizational priorities
  • Partner with internal teams to ensure digital strategy supports the organization mission, programs, partnerships, and fundraising initiatives
  • Design and implement integrated digital campaigns (paid and organic) that move audiences from awareness to participation and advocacy
  • Ensure campaigns are delivered on time, on budget, and aligned to strategic priorities
  • Develop and manage content calendars aligned to campaign priorities and audience needs
  • Develop audience targeting strategies and channel plans to maximize reach and engagement
  • Identify emerging platforms, trends, and cultural moments to ensure Active Minds remains relevant to youth and young adults
  • Partner with PR and Executive Leadership to amplify organizational thought leaders through social media platforms
  • Continuously test, optimize, and evolve digital strategies to drive engagement and growth
 

Content Management & Digital Storytelling

  • Oversee development and management of high-quality, youth-centered digital content across social media platforms
  • Ensure content reflects an authentic, inclusive, and engaging voice consistent with the Active Minds brand
  • Collaborate closely with the Creative and Communications teams to develop compelling digital storytelling
  • Maintain strong editorial standards, accessibility compliance, and brand consistency
  • Guide the creation of video, short-form, and interactive content designed to maximize engagement
 

Creator & Influencer Engagement

  • Lead the recruitment, activation, and management of content creators and influencers aligned to the Active Minds mission
  • Partner with creators to co-create content that resonates with youth audiences
  • Develop strategies to grow and sustain a diverse creator community
  • Identify opportunities to amplify creator voices across campaigns and partnerships
 

Social Listening, Analytics & Performance Optimization

  • Lead social listening strategies to monitor conversations, trends, and audience sentiment
  • Use analytics and insights to inform digital strategy and content development
  • Track and report on key performance metrics across platforms
  • Translate data into actionable recommendations for continuous improvement
  • Provide regular performance updates and strategic insights to the team
 

Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and guidance to digital and social media team members
  • Establish clear workflows, expectations, and performance goals for the digital team
  • Collaborate closely with Marketing strategy, Communications, Programs, Development, and Creative teams to deliver integrated campaigns that meet organizational objectives.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to leadership on digital engagement and youth trends

  • Extensive experience managing social media channels
  • Experience launching or scaling digital campaigns or creator programs
  • High digital literacy across platforms, tools, and analytics systems.
  • Accustomed to working on multiple multi-pronged projects with different deadlines simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and enthusiastically in person, over the phone, and in writing, with fellow staff members, and at all levels of the organization equally (including Executive Leadership, VPs, Directors, Managers, and Associates)
  • Belief that equity and social justice are important and driven to hear, reflect, and act on this belief.
  • Passion for youth mental health and digital storytelling.
 

You need to have:

  • 6-8 years of experience in social media, digital media or marketing, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven environment.
  • 4+ years of people management experience.
  • Expertise in social media & digital media strategy, content performance, and analytic reporting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with online tools and platforms including Sprout Social, Google Analytics, Meta Ads Manager, TikTok Creator Marketplace, Meltwater and ClickUp (project management tool).
 

COMPENSATION 

This position offers an initial salary of $80,850 along with robust benefits. The starting pay for this position is equal to others at the same level throughout the organization. Candidates whose experience meets both the minimum and preferred qualifications may be considered for a starting salary that exceeds the current amount. The role sits within Active Minds Level 4 salary band, and as such, has the potential to grow to $113,400 over time. FLSA Status: Exempt.
